United Utah Party Platform Changes
The purpose of this topic is to give everyone a voice in a way that everyone can build consensus around changes to the platform. The official UUP platform is here . The preamble says: “We believe that public policy should ultimately reflect the will of the people.” You can only reflect the will of the people to the degree you can track what that will is. A “untining” party should recognize that any particular party doctrine may not be unanimously supported by all party members. Everyone, including the extremists and revolutionaries should have a voice, and any minority differences should be tracked and acknowledged.
If the platform should reflect the will of the people, this means you shouldn't tell the people what that platform is. The attitude should instead be: “Until you tell us what you want, we don’t yet know what our platform is.” The end goal should be to, once you know this will, to get it all, for everyone, in a win / win way. If you can know, concisely and quantitatively, what everyone wants, that, by definition, is consensus.
Since that which you measure improves, the goal is to track what everyone currently does believe, as people work to improve. May the best revolutionary ideas achieve the most consensus as fast as possible. You need powerful consensus building tools that focus on what people do agree on, instead of just eternal bleating and tweeting about disagreements. You need to be able to track when people do get on board an improving revolutionary new consensus, and why. You can then focus on those reasons that convert, instead of just eternally bleating and tweeting all the bad ideas that just polarize everyone.
The purpose of this topic is not to dictate what the official UUP platform is, especially to the degree that not everybody is participating. The content of this topic is only a concise and quantitative representation of what the current participants believe, as they improve their beliefs. The hope is that if you use a system where everyone can have a voice, whenever the party does decide to make modifications to the platform, being aware of what at least some people are expressing about their will can be used to influence better decisions.
