Consensus means being deeply honest with yourself, and the rest of the group, about what you really need to happen, and what is just a preference. Finding a solution usually relies on people being flexible about their preferences in order to meet all the cores needs. This requires a lot of trust. Sometimes we struggle to express our needs, other times it is hard to let go of our preferences! It is worth giving time to developing social relationships and addressing difficult dynamics in order to build trust – especially if you have big decisions to make together. Trust can also break down if decisions are made and not implemented - see the section on accountability for tips on ensuring accountability in your group.
