Mostly

Abstract knowledge is sufficient.

Something must “instantiate” every piece of abstract information you have. Anything can instantiate a 1 in a substrate independent way, but you need a specific interpretation mechanism to get the 1 from that set of physics. In this way abstract binary data is, by design, separated from intrinsic physical properties. In other words “instantiate” implies abstract knowledge is separated from the actual physics, via some type of transducing or perceiving mechanism.
