Instant Runoff Voting asks voters to rank candidates in order of their preference. If a candidate secures first-place support from at least 50% of voters then they are declared the winner. Otherwise, an instant runoff round occurs in which the candidate with least first-place support is eliminated, and that candidate's supporters are reallocated to their most preferred candidate that is still in the race. These instant runoff rounds continue until a candidate reaches a winning 50% threshold of unexhausted ballots.
