On August 30, 2007, Sky Marsen, on the World Transhumanist Talk list (WTA-talk) asked:

"I'm curious: why did you call this project Canonizer? The 'Canon' designates texts emanating from an 'authority' and being imposed on a population as normative. It implies rules and regulations, unquestioned hand-me-downs, and a traditional standard of normalcy."

"Is this the meaning you were trying to capture? If so, it sounds like you want this project to become some kind of law. I'd have thought a title with a more radical or ground-breaking nuance would be more appropriate for this kind of project...or have I missed something?"

So it was decided to Canonize the issue of what this POV wiki system should be called.
