ProgPOW was heavily discussed in these two core dev Meetings:

There was a clear consensus, and multiple people pointed out how knowing the importance of ASIC Resistance to the Ethereum Community is a prerequisite to being able to make any technical decisions around issues like ProgPOW. For example, here is a quote from a comment by the Core Dev Felix Lange (fjl) in meeting 82 notes:

“I think that the decision as to whether or not ASIC resistance is important for Ethereum is purely a social decision with a lot of social factors. So it would definitely help to have more opinions on ASIC resistance from everyone. And that includes the much, much wider community.”

The goal of this topic is to find out the ‘right’ answer to this question. We want to collect not only the whats, but the whys, or reasons why people feel the way they do. The goal is to build as much consensus as possible in the fewest number of camps, while still concisely capturing everyone's reasons and feelings. Consider all of these camps as rough drafts that need to be wiki improved and merged into fewer camps if possible, by everyone.
