Welcome as the newest participator in the "Life Plan" survey topic.
I very much love, and completely agree with the new [http://canonizer.com/topic.asp/63/9 Hedonism camp] you created.
As usual, I wonder if there is a good way we can show this agreement in a super camp.
I'm betting that everyone in the [http://canonizer.com/topic.asp/63/7 Utilitarian] camp would agree with everything you say, as 'hedonism' or 'that which anyone wants' is the foundation of any utility function.
My personal [http://canonizer.com/topic.asp/63/5 Phenomenal Spirituality sub campy] to the utilitarian camp simply adds to what you believe, in that we believe that once we die, people still have memory of us, and the effects we had on the world still survive. Also, we believe that we can already preserve some of this to greater extents, that such has value, and that we would like to seek after more of the same. And of course, the ultimate ideal of that, would be recovering enough memories and information of a person to be able to resurrect them. And that doing so is kind of a hedonistic and selfish desire, in that we don't want to be lonely and without the dead person, helping us out.
Obviously, nobody can take it to that level, where we can resurrect anyone, yet, so we simply take that as a possibility, and a kind of idealized goal, to push towards, as much as possible.
Anyway, Allan, worst case, I propose moving the current "utilitarian" camp, including my sub camp, into a sporting sub camp position of the hedonism camp, to show that we all agree with you.
However, I'm thinking there is a good chance that you agree with at least some of what the rest of us believe, and would like to capture that, also.
So, would you mind proposing some improvements to the [http://canonizer.com/topic.asp/63/7 Utilitarian] camp to make it sufficiently like your camp so you would be willing to support that. In other words, merge all your hedonistic ideas into the current utilitarian camp, if possible. I'm betting all of us would agree that any improvements to the camp you make, along the lines of 'hedonism' would be acceptable to all current supporters and that nobody would object to any such improvements?
Remember, the goal of Canonizer.com is to build as much consensus, and have as few camps with as much consensus as possible, not just have everyone have individual loner camps.
Thanks,
Brent Allsop
