I tend to think that these two camps are not particularly different. I tend to think also that there is more than a grain of truth in the underlying idea BUT * on the one hand any abstract demonstration of the idea relies on some fairly sweeping general assumptions and there seems to be no practical way of demonstrating the truth of it, furthermore * on the other hand I am not sure it actually explains anything anyway.
